Yamaha R15S BS4 Review
The entry level sport bike, the Yamaha R15S is the second loved kid from the Yamaha’s family. The special attention towards the Yamaha R15 made the manufacture to update the motorcycle even to the version of 3.0 (Yamaha R15 V3.0), with all trendy nature. But, the problem that is always associated with the R15 is the bad pillion rider seat and discomfort. Yamaha is listening to its customers that it offered the comfortable and power to ride combination in the name of Yamaha R15S.
The R15S is totally out of the R15 Ver 3.0, R25 and R3 lineage and dedicated to the comfy ride. Price wise the Yamaha R15S is close to the other prime bikes like CBR 150R, Pulsar RS200 and FZ 25.
Outlook and design
The Yamaha R15S this time gets a decent body structure and with good built quality for sure. The paint jobs look rich and neat, especially the Track White colour of the R15S is eye catchy with the marine blue graphics. However, the sporty look of the Yamaha R15S is missing compared to the Pure R15 versions. The R15S outlook is a bit dated, but still a special one and greatly considered for the comfortable racing.
The Yamaha R15S is easily remembered about the very first versions of the R15 motorcycles while receiving a significant upgradation overall. The racing exhaust of the R15S remains same as that of the R15 2.0 versions.
The front full racing fairing, allow wheels and side mount carbon matte exhaust is almost the same that is spotted on the pure YZF R15 racing versions. The rear fender is a neat job for the Yamaha R15S with decent fashions help the motorcycle looks hefty from the rear view.
Unibody Seat
The R15S is the most comfortable bike of its R15 lineage. This time, the Yamaha is very particular about the comfortable, offered for both the riders. The raised rear pillion seat is no longer seen but comfortable even for a family couple, thanks for the Unibody seat.
The pillion grab rail in the carbon black colour adds beauty to the R15S and offers great grip.
Yamaha R15S Engine and gearbox
The engine specification of the Yamaha R15S is 149 cc, single cylinder, liquid cooled, four stroke setup. The fuel injected (Fi) system with the gases exchange managed by the 4-valve units can produce a maximum power of 12.2 BHP@ 8,500rpm and 15 NM @ 7,500 rpm of peak torque.
The 6-speed gearbox unit found in the R15S is similar to that of the R15 v2.0. The engine is smooth and rapid
Mileage and Top speed
Not a much difference is noticed between the R15S and the R15 V2.0 in terms of mileage and top speed. The Yamaha R15S can reach a top speed of 128 Kmph at a long stretch. The throttle response is quick and fun.
The mileage part behaves marginally better compared to the R15 V2.0. The combination of mileage obtained in both city and highways is 37-41 Kmpl. Driving at a constant low speed can increase the mileage of R15S.
Dimension
Not a major change is observed in the dimension of the Yamaha R15S, but takes very slight modifications. The R15S measures about 2060 mm in length, 670 mm in width and an overall height of 1070 mm.
The additional mm added to the length of R15S rewards the comfortable seating position to arrange the unibody seat well.
Digital console
The digital cluster of the R15S is the usual Yamaha’s racing display, that comes with the compact size and design of R15 V2.0. The cluster precisely has the analog Tachometer and digital Speedometer, Trip Meter, Odometer, Clock, Fuel Gauge, Low Fuel Warning signal and last few Kilometers to Empty signal.
Other features like turning signals, high and low beam indications are placed at the top the console.
Forks
The Yamaha R15S features the Telescopic suspension at the front while the rear side is made ease with a Linked Type Monocross suspension. The linked monocross rear shock feels the comfortable riding even in the pot holes.
Brakes
Both the wheels are supported by hydraulic single disk brake in the front and rear of 267mm and 220mm, respectively. Same specification of brake is seen in the R15.
Tyres
The tubeless tyres of Yamaha R15S measure about 90/80-R17 in the front and 130/70-R17 on rear. Thanks to the wider rear radial tyre since the entire look of the R15S is majorly impacted by the rear wheel size.
Colours available
Adrenalin Red, Spark Green and Track White are the three attractive colours offered in Yamaha R15S. The track white colour looks distinct and attractive we feel than the other colours. Yamaha should think about adding the conventional racing blue to the R15S models.
Final words
If you are looking for a racing response engine at a comfortable riding position, then R15S is the best to buy choice. The riding position of both the riders is an advantage for the 30 plus age group and family couples.
Touring becomes possible on R15S which is the limiting factor for some in R15 V2.0. Reduction in the pricing of ₹ 1,15,166 (Ex-show room price) on R15S may gain more sales.
