TVS Apache RTR 160 review
TVS Apache RTR 160 is a flagship motorcycle for the company and continues its journey on the road for more than a decade. The Apache RTR 160 was mainly claimed for its Racing throttle response (RTR) and it does the duty well. The TVS Apache RTR 160 now comes with the upgradation of new BS4 engine and other features like new matte red colour included in 2017.
Outlook and design
TVS Apache RTR 160 showed completely a new design to the 150cc market, when it was launched for the first time, a decade ago. The first thing you will notice in the RTR 160 new model is the larger chubby headlight which has the eyebrows like daytime running lamps. Overall, the front stance of the Apache RTR 160 resembles the face of the wild animal.
The fuel tank of the motorcycle is compact and offers the best leg room for the rider. The air shrouds attached on either side appear large and bare, which was much better in the previous old model Apache bikes.
In addition, the underbelly panel preventing the engine from the mud splash may have been smaller and compact.
The rear side cowl appears flat and sleek giving an edgy look for the TVS Apache RTR 160. The graphic works on the RTR 160 is neat and eye catching.
The side raised black exhaust remains the same from the old model Apache bikes and the best in class exhaust sound is still retained in the BS4 class compliant engine.
The one thing that remains unresolved till now is the best looking vote goes either for old model or new model Apache bikes.
Engine and gearbox
The 159.7cc, single cylinder, Air Cooled, 4 stroke engine of the TVS Apache RTR 160 can produce loads of power on the road.
The BS4 engine of the RTR 160 produces a maximum power of 15.2 BHP @ 8500 RPM and a peak torque of 13.1 NM @ 4000 RPM.
The engine is mated to a five speed manual gearbox making the gear shifts smooth and free.
TVS apache RTR 160 top Speed
The Apache 160 offers a punchy ride and can hit a top speed of 120 Kmph. However, after crossing a speed of 50-60 Kmph, the rider can easily notice the vibrations in the clip-on handle bars.
TVS with a long-standing Apache engine is all time expected to be refined, but are missing.
Power to weight ratio
The top speed and the performance of the Apache RTR 160 is majorly contributed by its power to weight ratio. The 137 Kgs of kerb weight offers a unit of 110.94 BHP per tonne to excel in the throttle response.
TVS apache RTR 160 mileage
The racing throttle response of the TVS Apache RTR 160 in the city traffic is more enjoyable and exciting. Along with this throttle response, the Apache 160 offers a mileage of 42 kmpl in city and 45 kmpl on a highway ride.
The apache 160 uses the conventional telescopic forks in the front and the rear side is under the control of Inverted Gas-filled shox (MIG).
The Apache 160 brakes are sharp and crisp on the road. The 270 mm Petal shaped Disc in the front and 200 mm Disc in the rear is featured in the double disc variant and 130 mm rear Drum Brake in the standard variant.
The disc brakes are very sharp, as the application of sudden hard brake on the muddy roads can skid away.
Both the wheels of the TVS Apache RTR 160 wears tubeless tyres ranging at a size of 90/90 x 17″ in the front and 110/80 x 17″ section tyres in the rear.
