Suzuki Gixxer 150 Review

Suzuki, the Japanese automobile manufacturer came to know by even toddlers some decades ago by the popular no problem bike “Suzuki Samurai”. Later the company launched the Suzuki Shogun 135 with the TVS alliance, which made all bike aspirants turn towards for its performance and frisky engine beats. However, after the regulations posed on to the 2 stoke engines by the government, Suzuki bikes are less spotted on roads and seems no effort has been taken by Suzuki to compete with its contenders, until the Taylor made street fighter the Suzuki Gixxer 150 was launched, the younger brother of Suzuki GSX-S1000.

As the Indian roads are crowded with 150cc bikes (Yamaha FZS 16, Yamaha SZ, Apache RTR 160, Hero hunk 150, CBZ Xtreme 150 and Bajaj pulsar 150, Honda Hornet 160, Unicorn 160 and more upcoming 150cc bikes), Suzuki was noiselessly watching to launch a 150cc bike to fill the gap by building a bridge between the rider’s needs and bike’s style, performance and Ergonomics.

Suzuki Gixxer 150 Style and design

The Suzuki Gixxer 150 was intentionally built by Suzuki to land at the center of street fighters offered by its competitors. The entire design of the motorcycle is an absolute inspiration from the naked GSX-S1000 and built into every aspect of the game.

The fuel tank of the bike is placed high with immaculate downy curves on top, while the knees of the rider finds comfortable attachment under the slightly curved hoods.

The headlight assembly projects the ultimate street fighter look adding more aggressiveness to the Gixxer. The bike looks even awesome and to the core when the small visors on the headlight is attached. The lack of split seatsuzuki gixxer 150 on motorcycle is not a matter as the full seat set-up gets a step-up look and comfort. The split grab rails at the back of Gixxer just suits the matte black texture, tail back ground of the body with a deltoid danger LED lamps.

The dual exhaust of the bike gets a chrome boundary, that contributes for fresh and cool appearance. The gap between the rear tyre and high rear gives the robust performance bike look overall.

Engine and Gearbox

The 154.9cc, single cylinder, air cooled 4 stroke engine of the Gixxer produces about 14.6 BHP @ 8000 rpm of maximum power and 14 NM @ 6000 rpm of peak torque. With the incorporation of 5-speed gear box, the Gixxer 150 revs as fast as it remains fair on the performance side.

The induction and exhaust gases of the engine are managed by Single OverHead Cam (SOHC) with a 2-valve system.

The bike is fair enough to ride and accelerate, and reaches 60-70 Kmph quickly.

The engine sound of Suzuki Gixxer 150 is hushed with smoothness as the noise is not audible even when the gear is not engaged.

Suzuki Gixxer Top speed and Mileage

The specifications and power of the engine keep the top speed of the Suzuki Gixxer 150 to reach 115 Kmph with abundant performance.

Opening the throttle crisply is responded by the Gixxer is helpful in gliding in dense traffic. The 0-60 in 5.61 Secs and 0-100 in 18.91 Secs is a good job from the Gixxer.

Suzuki claims to deliver Gixxer a 60 Kmpl, yet the decent level of mileage obtained as we tested is 48 Kmpl on highway and 41 Kmpl in the city traffic riding from 40-95 Kmph range on both the tracks.

It is appreciable that the Gixxer owners obtain a decent level of mileage, which is widely agreed.

Forks and Tyres

To keep the style intact, the Suzuki Gixxer 150 uses the combination of Telescopic suspension (41 mm) at the front, whereas the rear side is made easy with a swing arm mono suspension.

suzuki gixxer 150The tyres of the bike add safety on motion with wide tyre measurements of 100/80-R17 in front and 140/60-R17 MRF on the rear.

However, the sneezing rear view of the broad tyre is not fully projected when the rider is on, as the wide mud flaps behind covers the most.

Brakes

The speed is brought down to the ground safely with a single disk brake of 266 mm at the front and 130 mm rear drum brake.

Now, the rear disk of 240 mm has become an option on Gixxer charging extra. The double disk variant of Gixxer is a wise selection.

Instrumental consoles of Suzuki Gixxer 150

The digital console of the bike seems similar as it is found on its rivals, lodging Speedometer, Tachometer rpm, Trip meter, Odometer and Fuel gauge all to gather in the single instrumental frame.  Though the cluster is informative, the setup is a bit dated.

Dimensions and Riding Quality

The Gixxer 150 is built with the dimension of 2050 mm length, 785 mm breadth and 1030 mm in height, which is quite comfortable for all kinds of persons when comes to handling.

The driving seat position of the Gixxer feels comfort and supports city traffic driving with the smooth clutch lever on shifting gears.

The saddle position is satisfactory and the triangular chassis frame weighs less keeping the handle, fuel tank and tail almost at the same height level, matching the center of gravity.

The foot pegs are good enough for riding comfortable and safe and the fuel tank accommodates the leg position well.

The engine noise of Gixxer is less, compared to the riding noise of TVS Apache RTR 160 and Yamaha FZ 16. With the wheelbase of 1330 mm and a ground clearance of 160 mm, the Suzuki Gixxer 150 makes the ride clear and smooth, even on the hard coarse street, damaged roads and speed breakers with no stiff knocks.
