KTM Duke 390 2017 Review

The new Duke 390 2017 is totally a revamped model that the motorcycle is totally different from the existing types. Recently, KTM unveiled its all new flagship product DUKE 390 to the world at the EICMA 2016 motorcycle show. Also, the updated version is definitely appealing and attractive, compared to the currently available Duke 390s. The 2017 duke 390 is launched in Mumbai at a price of INR 2,10,000

The new feature includes side mount exhaust, elder Duke like a headlamp, TFT instrument console, new pillion seat, larger front 320 mm disc, racing slipper clutch, ride by wire technology and a lot more.

The very interesting part is, all the feature included newly in the 2017 Duke 390 remains almost same in terms of price compared to the 2016 model. Though, Bajaj Dominar 400 is 40-50K cheaper than the Duke 390, the futuristic and advanced features included by KTM being more than for what it is paid (Price INR 2,10,000).

The Duke 390 may have BMW G310R, Yamaha MT 03, FZ 25 and Dominar 400 as rival both in terms of specifications and price.

Duke 390 2017 Outlook and Design

The Duke 390 2017 is totally redefined and revamped in its design. The stunning look of the motorcycle is even sharpened this time and kicks off its rivals away in comparison. The selection of each feature to build the 390 has a direct connection to its elder beast, the Super Duke 1290. The aggressive angles of the motorcycle are perfect for its agile nature.

The headlamp of the Duke 390 2017 is the highlight of the machine, since the design is absolutely ferocious. The headlamp has a central split and has close relation with the super Duke derived charms.

The attractive trellis frame of the Duke 390 that used to be like a hot rod is now partially treated with white shade. The white sub frame supports the main frame and keeps the range higher in positioning.

The fuel chamber of the KTM Duke 390 2017 is a robust metal, rather being a plastic body. The Duke decal is very specific, based on the whole design of the motorcycle. The paint job looks fantastic on the fuel tank and the capacity is improved from 11 litres to 13.41 litres.

The continuous circulation of cooling liquid with water pump is expected to tackle the overheating problem of the 390 Duke, which was faced by few owners, previously. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox and gear ratios are expected to be well proportioned.

Drive modes

The left side of the handle bar wears the switches that control the riding power of the Duke 390. The switch system assists easily to select the power required by the rider, based on city travel and touring.

Slipper clutch

The shorter wheelbase and the compact structure of the Duke’s body is used for its easy handling and manoeuvrable. The newly equipped slipper clutch can just blow away the corners like a storm and relaxed on faster gear down shifts.

TFT (Thin Film Transistor) display (Digital console)

It is well known that the Duke’s instrument cluster is the most informative of all kinds. The KTM Duke 390 2017 is now powered by the all new TFT display, informing the Duke’s activity accurately. The Tachometer gets a circular shape, while the Fuel gauge and Engine temperature graph remains inside the circle.

Suspensions

The technical specifications of the suspensions continue to be the same, that is spotted on the currently available models. Nevertheless, the new suspensions included in the Duke 390 2017 models are refined to get the best out of the set up (WP 43 mm upside down forks and rear monoshock).

KTM claims that the suspensions come with a split function suspension.

Brakes

The braking systems of the Duke 390 is Improved for better braking and safety. The 320 mm front Disc with a four pot caliper and 230 mm Disc rear brake with one pot brake caliper acts as stopping force of the motorcycles when required. The Bosch 9.1MB ABS can be an option.

Tyres

The alloy wheels of 17 inches can be suitable with 110/70 R17 and 150/60 R17 Metzeler tubeless tyres in the front and rear, respectively.

The shades of the Duke 390 2017 are now determined by the fuel tank attached air scoops that runs continuously sidewise. Currently, the familiar orange colour is confirmed to be available and the remaining colours can be seen later. The pricing of the 390 2017 is around 2 lacs rupees and remains the best value for money motorcycle.
