Hornet 160 Special edition Review

Honda is doing great with the newly launched Honda Hornet 160, which is one of the leading candidates in the 150cc segment. Hornet 160 is a striking street fighter in the class, with numerous modern features. However, the major missing feature is the engine kill switch. But, the Hornet is a good package for the money spent, and retains special attention every time. Though, many 150cc bikes are available, the Hornet 160 competes mainly with the Suzuki Gixxer and Yamaha FZ 16.  The Hornet 160 is now available with an attention grabbing full body graphics termed as special edition.

Hornet’s looks and style

Honda Hornet 160 is decent, but look absolutely modern to match the youngsters of the present scenario. Especially, the special edition version of the Hornet gets an attractive green and orange colour graphics to attract more eyes. The orange or the green shade on the air shrouds looks like an arrow for the bike. The colourful graphics continue to the side panel with matte grey graphics is catchy.

honda hornet 160This time, even the name “HORNET” is green or orange partially in the side panels. But, the dimension and the fuel tank capacity remain same as compared to the standard model. The whole body of the Hornet is made dark to boost the new graphics appealing. The special edition Hornet comes with a green or orange wheel stripe, that adds beauty to the overall design.

The aggressive headlamp, mid-ship exhaust and the X shaped tail light remain same in the special edition as compared to the standard model Hornet.

Special edition Dimension

The Hornet is 2041 mm in length, 783 mm in breadth and 1067 mm in height, which is quite comfortable for all kinds of persons. The appropriate 1345 mm wheelbase is rapid and fluid in handling the special edition hornet.

Engine and gearbox

The 162.71cc, single cylinder, air cooled, 4-stroke engine of Hornet generates about 15.66 BHP @ 8500 rpm of maximum power and 14.76 NM @ 6500 rpm of peak torque. Mated with the 5-speed gear box, the Hornet 160R remains refined and smooth as it used to be.

Top speed and mileage

The special edition Hornet hit a maximum speed of 110 km/h which is similar as compared to standard Hornet. It takes 6.3 Secs to reach from 0-60 and 16.2 Secs from 0-100 Kmph. The mileage is one of the best feature from the Hornet, providing 42-46 Kmpl on combined city and highway ride.

Honda Eco Technology

The Honda Eco Technology (HET) uses the lighter parts to build the engine of the special edition Hornet. As a result, the fuel efficiency increases up to 11% and 8% reduced engine weight.

Digital consoles of special edition

The digital console of the special edition Hornet is similar, compared to its rivals. Speedometer, Tachometer, Trip meter, Odometer, Clock and Fuel gauge all together is under one readable frame. The design of the ignition key is bland and looks outdated, getting away from the overall look.

Brakes

The Hornet is the one in its segment, which supports the front disk with 3-pot caliper. The Hornet is also getting the Combi braking system (CBS), which is amazing on the stopping power.

The front 276 mm and rear 220 mm single petal disks are the best in class brake system available.

Forks and tyres of Hornet

The conventional telescopic forks in the front is thick and healthy on the Hornet. But, the choice of modern upside down forks installation can add trendy features to the Hornet. The rear side is installed with a mono shock absorber, supporting the riders back on every road. The hornet finds ultimate grip on roads with the Front 100/80-17 and rear 140/70-17 tubeless MRF Zapper tyres.

Special edition colours

Orange and Green are the two special edition colours offered from Honda.
